TEACHING

Piumi teaches and trains youth, amatuer and professional artists through drama workshops and academic lectures. A few of her trainings are listed below.

Stages Ensemble Actor Training Workshops

Actor training to a select group of new, emerging and professional theatre artists that covered ensemble acting, physical theatre, biomechanics and devised theatre making. This three-month training workshop (Aug- Nov 2022) culminated in a workshopped, original theatre production by the trained ensemble of 20 actors.

Student Drama Workshops

Piumi works closely with schools and children, teaching students the basics of theatre making, advanced devising, as well as storytelling through theatre. Thus far she has worked in many schools and institutions in Sri Lanka including Methodist College Colombo, Holy Family Convent Colombo, Mahamaya College Kandy, and the Salvation Army Children’s Home Colombo. She has also been commissioned by the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Arts Colombo to carry out drama workshops for youth.

Stages Junior Ensemble

Piumi was one of the lead artist teachers alongside artists of Stages Theatre Group, facilitating workshops for the child-led theatre ensemble, the Stages Junior Ensemble in Colombo which comprises of young and budding theatre artists aged between 10 – 15 years.

Teacher Training

Piumi has facilitated residential training workshops for drama teachers in public schools of Sri Lanka alongside other lead artists of Stages Theatre Group in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka.

Drama for University

Piumi is a Visiting Lecturer of Applied Theatre in the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, and has also conducted many University level drama workshops for University of Kelaniya, Curtin Colombo Campus, and Horizon Campus in Sri Lanka.
